The flap size and its placement depends on goals of the patient. One flap can achieve what is done by 350 punch grafts. The flaps that bear hairs will be lifted before being sewn at the new position. This is done while they are tethered to original blood supply.
Scalp reduction procedure is used to cover bald sections found at the back or top of the head. It is never used to treat frontal hairlines. Once the scalp is injected with local anesthetic, there is removal of a segment of bald scalp. Skin found around cut sections will be pulled to enable hair bearing sections to be brought together. It involves use of stitches.
